Why Some Strong Acids are LESS Corrosive than Weak Acids?
Most of the the students are confused confused in the above mentioned questions. They always thought that weak acids must not be corrosive. This is a wrong concept. Let us revise again the topics of Acids and Bases.
Strong Acids
Strong acids completely dissociate in water, forming H+ and an anion.
There are six strong acids:
- HCl - hydrochloric acid
- HNO3 - nitric acid
- H2SO4 - sulfuric acid
- HBr - hydrobromic acid
- HI - hydroiodic acid
- HClO4 - perchloric acid
Weak Acids
A weak acid only partially dissociates in water to give H+ and the anion. Examples of weak acids include hydrofluoric acid, HF, and acetic acid, CH3COOH.
Strong is Different from Corrosive
Corrosiveness is related to the negatively-charged part of the acid. Hydrofluoric acid (HF), for example, is so corrosve it dissolves glass. The fluoride ion attacks the silicon atom in silica glass while the proton is interacting with oxygen. Even though it is highly corrosive, hydrofluoric acid is not considered to be a strong acid because it does not completely dissociate in water.

Great Law of Attraction Affirmations
Affirmations, really, are simple. They are you being in conscious control of your thoughts. They are short, powerful statements. When you say them or think them or even hear them, they become the thoughts that create your reality. Affirmations, then, are your conscious thoughts.Research has shown that we have between 45,000 and 51,000 thoughts a day. That’s about 150 to 300 thoughts a minute. Research has also shown that for most people 80% of those thoughts are negative.
Now, we have been taught to think that most of these 51,000 thoughts are “sub-conscious” thoughts meaning that they are below our conscious awareness level. Affirmations actually make your sub-conscious thoughts conscious. Affirmations make you consciously aware of your thoughts. When you start making conscious positive thoughts, you actually become more aware of the negative thoughts that are always threatening to take over.
Affirmations can be further divided into different catagories. I think the most popular one should be Money Affirmation. Let's take a look on some examples.
Money Affirmation 1: I create my own reality and I have unlimited prosperity.
Money Affirmation 2: Financial abundance comes to me easily.
Money Affirmation 3: Large amounts of money come to me quickly and easily from multitudes of sources now.
Money Affirmation 4: I always have abundant amounts of money; more coming in than going out.
Money Affirmation 5: Unlimited possibilities and resources reveal themselves to me now.
Money Affirmation 6: I am comfortable having money.
Money Affirmation 7: Money is good and I deserve money.
Money Affirmation 8: I feel successful and I am successful.
Money Affirmation 9: I have more money than I ever dreamed was possible.
Money Affirmation 10: I expect only the best from my financial situation and the Universe provides just that or better.
Money Affirmation 11: I have a constant stream of money abundance in my life.
Money Affirmation 12: I have my ideal life.
Money Affirmation 13: I am able to think and feel in unlimited ways.
Money Affirmation 14: I have all the answers within myself and I implement them.
Money Affirmation 15: I am financially free.

Great Quotes
"Actioni is eloquence" - Shakespeare
"Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity." - Charles Mingus, legendary jazz musician
Stay hungry. Dream big
It's not wrong to be conservative. However, it will be great if we can think big and stay hungry. If the highest score I got is C, to score A in exam is not an issue if i continue the hardwork. If we know what we really want, we will achieve it one day.
Start from today, set your own goal and do whatever it takes to achieve it. The reward will not only the result itself but the self pride, achievements that you going to get.
Fancy dream and big dream is different. If i set a goal to score A in exam but playing game everyday, it will be a fancy dream and meaningless goal. Study, keep practicing and go for physical exercises to keep the mind sharp, score in exam will not be a tough mission to achieve.
Why study hard?
Education is always not the only mean to be successful. However, in the modern day, education already become the necessities, to train a person to react and learn new knowledge in short period.
If, for O-level, we have two years to prepare for the exam; just imagine that, in university, we only have 3 months to 4 months to prepare a few brand new subjects. Life can be more challenging ahead, however, if we equipped ourselves with good attitude, and keen to learn spirit, there's nothing challenging, our life ahead will be full of fun solving all kinds of problems.
There are more than 100 ways to motivate yourself in life. For sure, the most essential asset that we need to have is, good attitude and be positive.
Follow this blog and keep yourself motivated during this challenging period, we will keep posting some great quotes from great people, stories while helping you all preparing for the exam.
Good Results ahead. Cheers
Additional Maths Lesson 02
1)Simultaneous Equations in Two Variables
2)Partial Fractions
3)Binomial Theorem
Pls do your homework and submit on the coming Sunday 21st Jun! See ya!
Chemistry Lesson 03
Today we have covered the killer topic of O-Level Chemistry, Mole Concept. A lot of students confused about this 'complicated' concept. However, after the simplified explanation and defined notes, I am sure you will be enlightened.
In order to further strengthen what you have learnt, you need to read through the notes again. Do the exercises and gain more experience. You will strike the goal.
Topics that covered today:
1. Revision of last lesson.
2. Stoichiometry & Mole Concept.
Please be reminded that the next Chemistry lesson is on 29-Jun, 7.00pm-9.00pm.
17 June 2009
Additional Maths Lesson 01
1.)Quadratic Equations and Inequalities
2.)Surds and Indices
3.)Polynomials (Remainder and Factor Theorem)
Quadratic Equations and Inequalities
I am sure everyone remembers the "Discriminant" right?
Always remember that for an expression/curve/quadratic equation that is always positive, the parabola faces upwards (smiling curve) and will never cross/touch the x-axis, which means no roots (imaginary roots) Therefore...
For an expression/curve/quadratic equation that is never negative the parabola faces downwards (frowning curve) and it may either cut the x-axis at two distinct points or just touch the x-axis at one point. This means that it may have 2 distinct roots or repeated roots. Therefore ...
As for the Alpha/Beta section, things to note when solving such questions:
- Find the coefficients of the quadratic equation (a,b,c)
- Find the sum of roots.
- Find the product of roots.
You will be asked to find the new roots, which you will need to manipulate the equation to the original sum and product of roots. By substituiting them, you will get the new sum and product of roots. Following that always remember that you must an additional minus sign (-) for the new sum of roots for the new equation. That should solve the question. =)
Surds and Indices
Remember the law of indices on page 19 of the course book....
For surds, rationalising the denominator will be common and always remember the following:
Polynomials (Remainder and Factor Theorem)
For solving of cubic equations, do you remember how to use the equation mode in the calculator? Under Mode, choose Eqn. Choose 3. Plug in the values of a,b,c,d. Press “=” and you will get all the 3 roots. Use the first root as the factor and perform long division. From there, you will be able to factorise the quadratic equation.
Thats all for now! See you in Lesson 2!!!

How to practice more E-Maths/A-Maths questions in shortest time.
Below are a few tips to practice more questions in short period:
1. Do more challenging questions first.
- Normally, in an assessment book, the easier questions come first, followed by the tougher question. If the assessment book is in topical format, you may try the last question, normally denoted with a *, or highlighted by the book. If you are comfortable in solving a few of such questions, you may proceed to do another topic.
- It maybe very time consuming if you want to write down all the steps and working to get the answer. Furthermore, normally students are facing the problem of understanding the questions during exam, rather than don't know certain topic. Hence, this is to practice the students on understanding the question pattern and hence help in solving question in shorter time.
- Normally, experience help when solving question. If the scope of learning is only to know how to solve simple questions, find more challenging questions to do. It will not be a waste to know more than current scope, as eventually students will learn it in higher level, however, keep in mind that, if we know how to solve the questions of higher level, normally to solve lower level questions will not be tough.
- Although we have summarize on how to practice more effectively, practices are still something that must not be missed. Students need to do a lot of practices, to prepare for the high tension environment during exam. For students with more practices, normally the questions will be solved with ease.

Lesson From A Bird (Con't)
The bird has the same fear you have when you are facing uncertainties. For the first few times, it stood at the window, keep chirping and waited for us to catch it back into the cage even though it already escaped from the unlatched door successfully. That was the day, when it made the final decision to fly away, it did not chirp anymore, it tried to fly for the first time, and this time, it started to feel the lovely sky, a big "cage" without boundaries.
Limiting believes are those thoughts that stop us from risking ourselves. I might not be able to do it; I am not capable; I scared if someone else see me in this way; My parents won't be happy if I do so; Everyone said this is not a good choice.
Risking is not doing something without thinking. Risking, is an act to manage the uncertainties, set the price to pay, for which you think is manageable, and "ACT ON IT".
Good luck pals, we won't know what will happen in future if we try, and risk. However, there is only one definite ending we will have if we do not try, the who you are today, with an aging body.
A man is not old until his regrets take the place of his dreams.

Lesson From A Bird
When you want to describe a stupid person, you call him/her 'the bird's brain'. This is how we perceive the birds as the stupid animal. The reason is simply because their brain is very small. However, this idiom does not apply on this yellow bird(refer to the bird in the picture below). Yet, its story will blow your mind.

Basic Candlestick (基本K线图)

Basic Knowledge of FOREX
Foreign exchange trading is the simultaneous buying of one currency and selling of another. The foreign exchange market (Forex or FX) is the largest financial market in the world with a daily turnover of over US$1.9 trillion. Examples of currency trading pairs are Euro/US Dollar (EUR/USD) and US Dollar/Japanese Yen (USD/JPY). Most currency transactions involve the "Majors" - US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, British Pound, Swiss Franc.
Unlike other financial markets, the foreign exchange market has no physical location and no central exchange. The Forex market operates 24 hours a day through an electronic network of banks, corporations and individual traders. Forex trading begins every day in Sydney, then moves to Tokyo, followed by London and then New York. The major market makers, or dealers, consist of the commercial and investment banks, the exchange traded futures, and registered futures commission merchants such as FX Solutions.
FOREX Prices
FOREX markets and prices are mainly influenced by international trade flows and investment flows. The FX markets are also influenced, but to a lesser extent, by the same factors that influence the equity and bond markets: economic and political conditions especially interest rates, inflation, and political instability. Those factors usually have only a short-term impact, which makes Forex attractive as it offers some of the diversification necessary to protect against adverse movements in the equity and bond markets.
Foreign Exchange prices, or quotes, include a "Bid" and "Ask" similar to other financial products:
Bid: Price at which Dealer is willing to Buy and Traders can Sell Currency
Ask: Price at which Dealer will Sell and Traders can Buy Currency
The difference between the Bid and Ask is called the "Spread", which is the Trader's cost of the transaction. FX Solutions offers Traders the narrowest spreads in the retail Forex industry, thereby lowering transaction costs. For more information on the Spreads offered by FX Solutions click here.
Currencies are usually quoted to four decimal places, such as the Euro/US Dollar trading at 1.2400/1.2403, with the last decimal place referred to as a point or "pip" (percentage in point). A pip for most currencies is 0.0001 of an exchange rate; the one exception is the USD/JPY quote in which each pip is equal to 0.01.
Analysis of FOREX Markets
Foreign exchange traders base their decisions on either technical analysis and fundamental analysis. Technical traders use charts, trend lines, support and resistance levels, mathematical models and other means to identify opportunities and drive trading decisions. Fundamental traders identify trading opportunities by analyzing economic information.

Why Jeff killed the Pig
“Go back now!” she wheedled him, “When I get home we'll kill the pig for you.”
Upon her return, she found Jeff about to kill the pig. She hastily stopped him.
“I didn't really mean it, " she protested.” I just said that to keep the boy quiet. "
“How can you deceive a child like that?" asked Jeff. Children know nothing to begin with, but they copy their parents and learn from them. When you cheat the boy, you are teaching him to lie. If a mother deceives her child, he will not trust her, and that is no way to bring him up.
So he killed the pig after all.
1. wheedled: (wheedle
2. hastily:
3. protested (protest
4. deceive:
6. lie:
7. trust:

Investment First Thought (投资序言)
Got it?

Introductory Investment
The Frog in the Well (井底之蛙)
There was a frog that lived in a shallow well.
" Look how well off I am here ! " he told a big turtle from the Eastern Ocean. " I can hop along the coping of the well when I go out, and rest by a crevice in the bricks on my return. I can wallow to my heart's content with only my head above water, or stroll ankle deep through soft mud. No crabs or tadpoles can compare with me. I am master of the water and lord of this shallow well, What more can a fellow ask ? Why don't you come here more often to have a good time ? "
Before the turtle from the Eastern Ocean could get his left foot into the well, however, he caught his right claw on something. So he halted and stepped back then began to describe the ocean to the frog.
" It's more than a thousand miles across and more than ten thousand feet deep. In ancient times there were floods nine years out of ten yet the water in the ocean never increased.
And later there were droughts seven years out of eight yet the water in the ocean never grew less. It has remained quite constant throughtout the ages. That is why I like to live in the Eastern Ocean. "
Then the frog in the shallow well was silent and felt a little abashed.
1. shallow:
3. coping:
4. crevice:
5. bricks:
6. wallow:
7. stroll:
8. crabs:蟹
9. tadpoles:
10.compare:比较
11.claw:爪
12.halted:停止
13.ancient:
14.drought:
15.abashed:

One piece of advice really grabbed my attention and, I must say, made me feel quite annoyed. In Li's opinion, foreigners are an “opportunity” to improve your oral English; whenever you see a foreigner, you should practice speaking English to him/her. The writer goes on to say that if the foreigner doesn't want to answer your questions, then he/she is a rude person who you wouldn't want to spend time with anyway.I think this counsel is not only incorrect, but also potentially damaging to relations between Chinese and foreigners in China.
Like most other laowai living in China, I know how isolated one can sometimes feel living amid a culture far removed from our own familiar ways. However, most of the time this cultural isolation is something I simply accept as part of being here. I am, after all, here to learn about the people and the language of China and if I really hated this place then I would go home! So far my time in China has been very rewarding. I have improved my Chinese language skills, learnt about one of the most fascinating, swiftly developing countries in the world today and made some very close Chinese friends.
Unfortunately, I have also come across many Chinese people who view me purely as an“opportunity” to improve their oral English under the guise of making friends. I have experienced people following me home from town to my college flat and then harassing me to teach them English or practice English with them. I have had complete strangers thrusting articles, manuals and speeches in my face, insisting that I help them with the English translation. I have had people asking me to assist with immigration applications to other countries. All of these people have claimed at the time that what they chiefly wanted was to make friends with me. There was even one person at the weekly English Corner that I run at college who, after plying me with non-stop questions for half an hour, became very angry when I politely asked him to give other people a chance to speak. He puffed himself up like a peacock and informed me that he was simply trying to be my friend.
He may well have thought he was trying to be my friend, but where I come from you don't build friendships by pestering and badgering another person. Friendship for a lot of Westerners is about spending time with someone whose company you genuinely enjoy. It's not about opportunities or personal advantage. The Chinese friends I have made while living here have been genuine friends to me; we enjoy each other's company for its own sake. In this way, we've not only learnt a good deal about each other's culture but also about each other as individuals.
I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't approach foreigners at all. However, I do think that it's important to question your own motives. If you truly want to make friends with someone from a different country, who could possibly object? On the other hand, if your only motive is to “use” the foreigner as a way of improving your English, then it's quite likely that the foreigner will be able to see through you - and will definitely not want to spend time with you.
So if there's any advice to give on making and keeping friendships with foreigners, I would say that it is this: Treat foreigners as people, not opportunities. Expect to make friendships gradually, over a period of time, not instantly. And don't ply foreigners with lots and lots of disparate questions. At times, this approach comes across as confusing and unnatural.
Finally, I would suggest that if you really want to make friends with a foreigner, then you do so because you are genuinely interested in the person. We all know that true friendships stand the test of time. If your only reason for making friends with a foreigner is to upgrade your English, then you will probably find that you don't have a foreign friend for long!
